High Starters Academy

Poltair School recognises the achievements of all their learners, focusing on ensuring that every student achieves their full potential. Those learners at Poltair School who are aspiring for the highest grades are recognised as High Starters.

High Starters

For Poltair School, this includes learners who have scored 30 or more points in their KS2 SATS. We also identify through teacher nomination and look for skills of leadership, resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity. We also use teacher identification, alongside transition information from primary schools. This cohort is monitored and tracked by every department at the school to ensure that appropriate provision is in place to enable learners to make 4 levels progress. We also ensure that these students have the opportunity to explore their subjects in extra-curricular activities. These sessions are aimed at developing their passion and enthusiasm for their learning.

How Is Data Used By The School?

Data is used by staff to prepare high quality lessons so that the High Starters can progress in their lessons. The data is used to ensure that challenging outcomes are set and that learning activities bring complexity and intrigue for learners. Pupils and parents receive termly progress reports to show that their progress is being monitored. This will allow pupils to reflect upon their progress so far and set themselves challenging targets.

How Does The School Provide For The Needs Of The High Starters?

This is an exciting time for our High Starters as our new High Starters Academy has just been launched. High Starters can expect to have tailored programmes to meet their needs which includes a year based skills programme, enrichment opportunities (including trips and visits) and high challenge. This programme is also delivered through effective differentiation within classroom based learning where these l earners will be set challenging learning activities which clearly graded success criteria to reach their outcomes. High Starters are also encouraged to become more independent and to take a lead in their learning.
