The St Austell Learning Community is a network that includes all the primary schools and both secondary schools (Penrice & Poltair) in St Austell and the surrounding area. On Thursday 3 July the network held 'A Celebration of Achievement' Evening at St John's Methodist Church.

Each of the schools, nominated students from within their school, to be recognised for their achievement.

Jon Cleave (from Fisherman's Friends) was the invited Guest of Honour, the Cornishman is also a well-respected children's author, and the Master of Ceremonies was John Martin. The evening began with two superb musical performances from Penrice's Jazz quartet and Poltair's singers. The welcome address was given by Mr Tong before the Presentation of Awards.

The categories for the Awards and the winners from Poltair were:

  • Creative and Performing Arts:   Emma White
  • Physical:   Daniel Marks
  • Language & Literacy:   Katie Sturtridge
  • Science/Technology:   Charlotte Grigg
  • Numeracy:    Cadan Glass
  • Citizenship:   Ben Bassett
  • Humanities:    William Heamen

We are extremely proud of them all on their achievements - well done.
