Poltair has this week been supporting the National Anti-Bullying Week campaign. The theme has focussed on 'e safety' making students more aware of the positive aspects of using the internet and the negative side that can sometimes lead to internet bullying. Guest speakers have been in school giving students in-depth advice and guidance on this matter.

PC Nigel Hyde talked about the implications of cyber-bullying, how to report bullying and deal with it. Marie Blackbeard from the County School Nurse Service, looked at student physical and emotional well-being. Poltair School is now offering a drop-in service each Monday lunch-time to support and guide students. We will also be launching a new peer mentoring initiative led by Mrs Hearn our Inclusion Officer and School Councillor, who is looking to develop a peer mentoring programme that will enable students to seek support from their peers in school on the following:

  • Bullying
  • Relationships, peer pressure
  • Relationship with parents
  • Homework and exams
  • Difficulties with school subjects
  • Self-image, food and diet
