Our Poltair Student Council elections are one of the key features of the autumn term. As the Student Council becomes more established each year so competition for places heats up. As well as fun and an experience for the candidates the whole school is involved in the learning process. Our elections are run on the lines of a real election using the vocabulary pupils will need to know in adult life.

When the Poll closes, the Ballot Box is taken away and the votes are counted. In due course, our Returning Officer declares the results.

A wonderful day for those elected but the learning experience for all is the real winner. Pupils have been able to be involved in public speaking, participating in speeches and debates. Their critical thinking skills have been sharpened as they analyse campaign speeches and posters. And most importantly, they gain an insight into the po-litical process.

Thanks must go to the Returning Officers who worked hard all day, they are Erran Hussain, Bradley Broadhurst, James Richards, Holly Courtney, Georgia Oliver, Kirsty Symons, Courtney Jade Rowden, Paige McGhee, Ethan Gordon and Joshua Hitchens.

And of course our congratulations go to the successful candidates.
