Jess Newson 11GO began training seriously about a year ago in the sport of rowing. This involves both indoor rowing machines and outdoor rowing (individual sculling).She trains up to four times a week both at the Castle Dore Rowing Club based at Golant and on the canal and the River Exe at Exeter with her coach Dave Brookes. Having successfully passed the trials to represent the Western region, Jess has now successfully competed at National level being placed second at the under 16s inter-regional regatta. 'We row up to 5 kilometres in winter, but the summer regatta courses are shorter at under 2 k' explained Jess. 'My personal target is to improve my performance for the Great Britain trials.'
